Every week someone walks into our Marol studio, or messages us on WhatsApp, and asks the same first question: what will a website cost me? And every week the honest answer starts the same way. It depends, but not on what you think. It does not depend on which suburb you are in or how hard you negotiate. It depends on what the website has to do for your business. This guide lays out real 2026 numbers for Mumbai, what changes them, and how to avoid paying twice.
The short answer: Mumbai website prices in 2026
Here is what businesses actually pay in Mumbai right now, across the market, from freelancers to mid-size agencies like ours:
- Landing page (single page): Rs 8,000 to Rs 20,000. Ours start at Rs 12,000.
- Business website (5 to 8 pages): Rs 20,000 to Rs 60,000. Ours run Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000.
- E-commerce store: Rs 40,000 to Rs 1,50,000 depending on catalogue and features. Ours start at Rs 45,000.
- Custom web applications: Rs 1,00,000 to Rs 2,00,000 and beyond. Scoped individually, everywhere.
Anything dramatically below these ranges is usually a template with your logo swapped in. Anything dramatically above needs a very specific justification, and you should ask for it.
The five things that actually move the price
1. Custom design versus template. A template site reuses a layout a thousand other businesses have. Custom design starts from a blank canvas around your brand. The difference is roughly Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000, and it is the difference between looking like your industry and looking like yourself.
2. Number of pages. Every properly built page needs structure, copy and design decisions. A 5 page site and a 15 page site are different projects, not the same project with more clicks.
3. Content readiness. If you have photos, text and a logo ready, you save money. If the studio has to write your copy, shoot your premises and design your graphics, that is real work that shows up in the quote. We do all of it in-house, which is usually cheaper than hiring three separate vendors, but it is never free.
4. E-commerce complexity. Twenty products with standard shipping is one number. Eight hundred products with variants, COD rules and marketplace sync is another. Catalogue size is the single biggest cost driver in store builds.
5. SEO foundation. A website that is built to rank, with proper structure, speed, schema markup and keyword-mapped pages, costs slightly more to build and repays it every month after. A site built without it usually gets rebuilt within two years. We wrote about what that involves on our SEO services page.
What a fair quote should include
When you compare two quotes, make sure both include the same things. A complete Mumbai business website in 2026 should come with mobile-first design, SSL security, contact and WhatsApp integration, basic on-page SEO, Google Business Profile linking, analytics setup, and at least 30 days of post-launch support. If any of these appear later as add-ons, your cheap quote was not cheap.
Freelancer, agency or DIY builder?
DIY builders (Wix, hosted site makers) cost Rs 500 to Rs 2,000 a month and your time. Fine for testing an idea. Weak for ranking on Google in a competitive city, and you never truly own the asset.
Freelancers are the cheapest human option and some are excellent. The risk is continuity. If they take a job or disappear mid-project, you restart from zero. Ask what happens to your site if they are unavailable in month eight.
Agencies and studios cost more because more than one skill is involved: design, development, content, SEO. You are paying for accountability and for the site still being supported two years later. Our own client wall on the web design page is the argument we make instead of a sales pitch.
Mumbai-specific notes nobody mentions
Your suburb does not change the price. A website for a Bandra boutique and a Kandivali manufacturer cost the same to build well; what changes is the strategy, which is why we build location-specific pages differently for each area. GST at 18 percent applies to professional web services, so confirm whether a quote is inclusive. And maintenance is real: expect Rs 2,500 to Rs 5,000 a month for updates, backups and security if you want the site to stay fast and safe.
Red flags that predict a bad website
A quote with no breakdown. A portfolio the studio cannot prove is theirs. Hosting held in the vendor’s name instead of yours. Unlimited everything promised for Rs 5,000. No mention of mobile, speed or SEO anywhere. Any two of these together and you will likely pay for the website twice, once now and once when it gets rebuilt properly.
Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum sensible budget for a business website in Mumbai?
Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 for a custom-designed 5 page site built to rank. Below that you are choosing between a template or missing fundamentals.
How long does a website take to build?
A landing page takes about a week, a business website two to three weeks, an e-commerce store three to five weeks depending on catalogue.
Are there ongoing costs after launch?
Yes: domain (around Rs 1,000 a year), hosting (Rs 3,000 to Rs 8,000 a year), and optional maintenance from Rs 2,500 a month. Anyone who says there are zero ongoing costs is hiding them inside something else.
Does a more expensive website rank better on Google?
Price does not rank. Structure, speed, content and authority rank. But those take skilled hours to build, which is why the cheapest sites rarely rank: the hours were never spent.
