How to Choose a Web Design Company in Andheri (Without Getting Burned)

Here is an uncomfortable fact from inside the industry: most people who get burned by a web design company in Mumbai were not unlucky. They were unprepared. They compared three quotes by price, picked the friendliest voice, and discovered the real differences six months later, when the site was slow, invisible on Google, and hosted in someone else’s name. This guide is the checklist we wish every business owner carried into that first meeting, including the ones who never call us.

The five checks that predict everything

1. Ask to click their portfolio, not scroll it

Anyone can paste screenshots into a PDF. Ask for live links and open them on your phone. Do the sites load in a couple of seconds? Do they look current or like 2019? Then ask the uncomfortable question: which of these did your team actually design, and can I speak to one of the owners? An agency proud of its work will hand you a phone number. We keep 54 client logos on our web design page precisely because each one is checkable.

2. Ask who owns the domain, hosting and website

This single question exposes more bad agencies than any other. The correct answer: everything is registered in your name, and you can leave with all of it anytime. The wrong answers sound like “we handle all that for you” with no paperwork. Mumbai is full of businesses paying ransom for their own website because the vendor owns the keys. Walk out of any meeting where ownership is fuzzy.

3. Ask what happens after launch

A website is not an event, it is an asset that needs upkeep: updates, backups, security, small changes. Ask what the first 30 days include, what support costs afterwards, and what response time looks like when something breaks on a Saturday. Agencies that plan for year two are agencies that expect you to still be a client in year two.

4. Ask how the site will rank, and listen for specifics

Everyone says SEO-friendly. Almost nobody can explain it. A real answer mentions concrete things: page structure and headings, loading speed, schema markup, keyword mapping, Google Business Profile linking. A vague answer means SEO was a word on the brochure. If ranking matters to you, and in a city where customers search before they buy it should, the build has to be structured for it from day one. Retrofitting costs more than doing it right, which we wrote about in our website cost guide.

5. Ask for a fixed quote with a written scope

The cheap quote that grows is the oldest trick in the trade. A professional quote lists pages, features, content responsibilities, revision rounds, timeline and price, fixed. If the scope is a WhatsApp message and a number, the number will change. Get it in writing and the relationship starts honest.

Red flags that end the meeting

No physical address you can visit. A portfolio they cannot prove is theirs. Hosting bundled mysteriously into their name. “Unlimited pages, unlimited revisions” for a price that cannot pay one designer’s week. Guaranteed first-page Google rankings, which no honest agency promises. Pressure to pay the full amount upfront. Any two of these together, and you already know how the story ends.

Local or remote: does it matter in Andheri?

For a lot of digital work, geography is optional. For accountability, it is not. A studio you can visit, in Marol or anywhere in Andheri, is a studio that cannot disappear when something breaks. Local also means the team understands your market: an agency that knows the difference between SEEPZ exporters and Lokhandwala salons builds different websites for each, because their customers search differently. That local knowledge is the entire premise of our area-wise approach.

Freelancer, big agency or studio?

A freelancer is one person deep: brilliant until they are busy, absent or gone. A large agency has layers: you brief an account manager who briefs a team you never meet. A studio sits between: senior people, small enough that the person you meet does the work, big enough that the work does not stop when one person sneezes. We are biased, we are a studio. But ask any option the five questions above and the differences show themselves.

Questions to bring to your first meeting

Which three sites of yours should I open right now? Who owns my domain and hosting? What exactly is in scope for this price? What does the site include for SEO, specifically? Who do I message when something breaks, and how fast do you respond? What did a project like mine cost and take, last time you did one? Ten minutes of answers will tell you more than any portfolio deck.

Frequently asked questions

How do I verify a web design company is legitimate?

Check their Google Business Profile for reviews and a real address, open their live portfolio links, and ask to speak with a past client. Legitimate studios make all three easy.

What should a website cost in Andheri?

The same as anywhere in Mumbai: landing pages from around Rs 12,000, custom business websites between Rs 20,000 and Rs 60,000, e-commerce from Rs 40,000. Suburb does not change price; scope does.

Should I pay the full amount upfront?

No. Standard practice is an advance to start, a milestone payment, and the balance at launch. Full payment before work begins removes every incentive to finish.

What if I already got burned by an agency?

Recover your assets first: domain, hosting access and files, in your name. Then audit what exists before rebuilding; sometimes the foundation is salvageable. We do this assessment free, and honestly, because half the time the news is better than people fear.
